Leaders are faced with unlocking the potential in the people who they lead and motivating the person is a vital part of this procedure. Motivation isn't something that's done to an individual as they already posses it. What a leader does, to gain the entire team, is to discharge, or unlock, it. Here are seven ways leaders unlock potential in people.

Leaders discuss their vision and values.

Vision is exactly what the staff aspires to. Some visions may never be accessible, yet by their very existence they inspire, excite and inspire people to turn them into a reality. Where the vision comes from, however, is less important than whether group members fully share the vision. Where does vision come from? Basically it comes from what you appreciate or care strongly about. Values, then, are the basis of the vision. Normally you would have just a few values. Each individual can usually identify and explain them in their own words. They aren't necessarily the same as mission statements, slogans or taglines written on walls or bulletin boards. As a leader, it's vital that you regularly restate the staff values and display them by your own actions. Leaders should also ask team members to keep generating examples of how they're turning values into reality.

Leaders appreciate people.

People will work very difficult to get a leader because they believe you appreciate them as a person. You do this by treating every individual with respect and by persisting in demanding that this is the way team members treat one another too.

Leaders Give Recognition.

Research indicates that organizations rarely give enough recognition to their own people. All too often people believe that they're taken for granted and that there is inadequate feedback for their efforts. Recognition does not always need to be in the form of a promotion or pay increase. Your team needs clear signals of appreciation, which can easily and simply be done by saying"thank you," a little present, public praise, a party, etc..

Leaders are Creative.

Creativity is one of the strongest means a pioneer has of unlocking your team's full potential and infusing them with fresh energy. You may foster creativity by being open to new possibilities, new connections, new procedures and surprising solutions. To use everybody in the team for their highest potential, they have to be stretched as human beings. This doesn't mean setting impossible goals as much as it does anticipating the most of every individual on the team. To anticipate the most, you will need to understand each persons talents. You can learn about members of this team through formal appraisal procedures, asking the individual, asking others, trial and error at work etc. The array of your team's ability will probably astound you. Have fun discovering the group's talents.

Leaders Inspire Special Work.

Interestingly, people will do extraordinary work for a number of leaders and not for others. This happens when folks see their own interests linked with the pioneer and he/she would like to attain. When you call for team effort, bear in mind that people respond to emotion and facts. Both are essential. Facts will initiate the process of convincing your staff that epic effort is necessary. Be certain that you prepare the facts carefully because they need to resist the team's scrutiny. Emotion is another very important ingredient. You will need to appeal to people's feeling, not simply their logical, rational, parts. Facts alone will rarely tap a group's hidden power and commitment. Watch for signs from the group to indicate that individuals are making special work and immediately reinforce it by offering recognition and approval.

Leaders Do It Their Way.

Leaders will need to develop a way and adopt a style that suits them. Then, when you will need a special effort from the group, this is the moment to show them your actual leadership style. Inspiring people isn't as simple as it sounds. It begins with you, sharing with them what motivates you. If are dedicated to what you need, people will react to your inspiration, power and vision. If you truly believe in your vision, and exude energy and passion about it, the staff will also share in that attempt with you and feel your enthusiasm. Conversely, negativity will also breed negative ideas from your team. Bear in mind that each team member will respond with a"what's in it for me?" approach. Discover what each individual on the team needs and you'll have the key to unlocking their potential and sustaining that particular effort you require.

Your qualities as a leader will entice people to think about making the epic attempt you want or need. They may be attracted to your fire, your humanity, energy, integrity or commitment. They may respect and fear your decision to make something happen, but it's the human qualities you share that will gain their respect and commitment.
